First read-through with my NYC-bound FIRST HAND WOMAN cast!
I printed up seven copies of my script, threw them in my basket, hopped on my bicycle and zoomed over.
I can’t tell you how scary and exciting it was for me to hear it read out loud again. It’s been four years since that last happened. I’ve also made some cool changes to the script since our 2009 run. 🙂
Crazy fun, right? We snapped a quick pic after the reading:
L-R: Allana Harkin, Sarah Michelle Brown, Victoria Murdoch, Patrice Goodman, Nicole Stamp
Now, here’s my quickie FIRST HAND WOMAN insider skinny from the read-through for you:
New cast member, Victoria Murdoch, playing “Denial” had us all in stitches.
New cast member, Nicole Stamp, playing “Bargaining” brought an awesome A-type sassiness to the role. (* Note, Nicole Stamp went on to instead direct the show, and the wonderful Nicole Maroon rocked this role in NYC)
Veteran cast member, Patrice Goodman, playing “Anger” brought her passion and her “funny” to the role again (I can’t wait to see where she takes it this year).
2009 cast member, Allana Harkin, playing “Acceptance” worked her no-nonsense take on the part — look out NYC.
And I had a blast messing around with the role of “Depression” (ironic, right).
The amazing Saidah Baba Talibah and Alejandra Nunez, who are bringing the live songs and the sounds to the NYC debut, joined in and stirred us up.
