Crazy Great Lesson Learned!
I find that revisiting the journey that I went through in the months that lead up to FIRST HAND WOMAN’s world debut last month, is sort of like… Amazing + Brain Melt.
Diving in the way I did was kinda like skydiving when you’re afraid of heights and planes – You can read about that little adventure of mine HERE. 😉
So here is the most amazing thing that leaping into FIRST HAND WOMAN’s Montreal debut taught me:
Take That Risk!
Yep, it is hard to produce, write and act in a production staged for a city you don’t live in, using your own bank account, while bringing along your cast and crew for the ride — especially with a debut theatrical production that you strongly believe in.
Very hard, in fact.
However, I’m finding that the rewards far outweigh the fatigue, the self-doubt and the fears. The opportunity for FIRST HAND WOMAN to finally reach out across the stage lights and engage an audience makes every sleepless night worthwhile:
Funny, uplifting, earth-shatteringly sad at times, this is mandatory fringing for any woman who’s survived a bad breakup, or any person who has ever loved, and lost either someone else, or themselves.”
– Sara, Montreal audience member
Taking that risk made me feel unbelievably alive and like I was working towards something that could actually do some good out in the world. Crazy great feeling!
Yes, stepping outside of your comfort zone can be unbelievably uncomfortable, and I highly recommend that you leap outside of it at every opportunity. 🙂
Soooo… Here’s where you come in, and in light of my own risk-taking, this one’s a doozy. I want you to write down a list of 5 things that you’re too scared to do AND why. This might be a tough exercise to do, so if you need to, set some time aside to do it fully. It’s all in the “why” with this exercise, so please remember to be kind with yourself when you’re finished with this first part.
Next… I want you to look at the flip side and write down the reasons why you want to do these things. Really dig deep here. No skimping on the amazingness that’s inherently there, okay? Let yourself dream wildly!
Alright, lastly, when you’ve finished this exercise, I want you to come back here and leave a comment exclaiming one thing from your list of 5 that you want to accomplish in your lifetime. Scary right? I completely get it. But I know you can take this first step. Courraggio!!!
This is a tough one, so great job for taking it on!
PS – If you still haven’t read my blog about the time I went skydiving for the symbolism of it, I suspect this might be a great time to do so. Check it out HERE. Xoxo
And as always…
Dream up,
